I just bought this unit, and I have to say, it is a great deal.
I have purchased several other small portable speaker units for our many iPods. This is the first one that you can actually leave attached in the unit and still play it while moving, knowing that it is very well protected. Every other one we have requires it to be still, otherwise it will ruin the 30 point connector to the iPod.
The draw back is while in the unit you can not access the iPod to change your music selection. Your playlists must be organized before you shut the unit.
Also, it does NOT come with the rechargeable cord. You must send away and pay an extra $22 for it.
I purchased mine at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was retailing there for $49.99, I had a 20% off coupon, which brought the total sale price to $39.99 for me. After having several version, this one is well worth the $40 - $50 you can get it for at BB&B.
The first portable speaker unit we bought was the much recognized and much touted Altec Lansing. They are great speakers for a small unit, and very sleek looking. I had researched portable speakers for quite a bit before that purchase, and Altec Lansing has one of the best reps for speaker sound quality. I would agree. But this unit, which is much more portable, is pretty close in that sound quality, making it a better deal for anyone who is looking for a truly portable unit, this unit is kid friendly as well.
I bought this unit as we are traveling to AZ for a family get together with lots of play dates with kids, whether at the zoo, in the park, or riding horses. I can tell you that this unit is meant to be completely portable while keeping you iPod totally secure. The only thing one might have to fear is someone leaving it or someone stealing it. The unit is very rugged and pretty well thought out as is. Pretty light, easy to carry, and can be hung on something.
My only other gripe, and it is a small one, would be that the handle that is on there would be more functional if they had made them hooks so that the unit could be hung on an item that did not have an open loop or the like. The current handle is unable to be detached or adjusted. Closed end hooks would have been a great idea.
If you have kids and have been looking for a reliable, sturdy, portable speaker unit which would protect your iPod while in use, this is the unit for you.
Print up a coupon from Bed, Bath & Beyond for 20% off, or put yourself on their mailing list, at $40, this unit is well worth the dough. I would have paid the retail price of $50 for it.
Best of luck.
