I have a dream...

...that someday, someone, somewhere, will come out with a GOOD 3-D sidescrolling game.
This is not it.
Overview: Soul Fighter, perhaps named thusly to make people think it shares some sort of relationship to another, far better game with the word "Soul" in the title, is a bad game. On all fronts.
Gameplay Mechanics: The graphics are choppy. 3-D is nice, sure, but for a sidescroller? It doesn't work yet. The camera moves VERY slowly, and your character will not turn and face the enemies if he or she cannot see them. You could be killed any time by something that you cannot see. There IS a way to call the camera to you, but that also takes time. And in that time, you are being nailed by six or seven little imp-troll corssbreeds with NASTY attitudes.
The combinations of attacks that you can do with each of the three selectable characters (the traditional three: fast female, average male, and big bruiser male) are interesting, and each has a unique weapon that they can use for a limited time. But when you are surrounded, as happens often in a 3-D environment, you are simply dead. As a human player, you just cannot press the buttons fast enough to hit the enemies before they hit you. An inappropriately named "guard" button causes your character to cringe for about a tenth of a second, and then return to fighting stance. This will not be useful, since a tenth of a second covers about a tenth of the attack being thrown at you.
Storyline: You are one of three fighters: female thief; male wizard; or male bruiser. The object of the game is to save the imprisoned souls of the townsmen. Get it? Souls? Souls-- Soul Fighter? Heh. Hah. Hehh... That's about it.
Rating: Don't waste your time. I did... so that you don't have to.
