This game hooked me in from the very start and I'm certain it will do the same for you! The opening FMV is beautiful and striking, it absolutely mesmerized me and by the end of the intro, I was gnashing my teeth to get stuck into the game! Without a doubt, SCII is one the best fighting games out on the PS2.
The graphics on Soul Calibur II are simply amazing the sets, the character animations, the costumes, weapons everything is stylishly animated. You'll have to see them for yourself.
The gameplay is solid, the characters are responsive, and the moves are fluid. Button mashers will find it relatively easy to get started, and experienced players will revel in the grand combos that can be performed. The training mode is as it should be - helpful. There are several modes, characters, costumes, weapons, art work, movie sequences, character endings for you to open up as you progress through the game, there is so much for you to do. You can beat weapons master and arcade mode with each character allowing for several weeks or months of entertainment. The replay value is excellent and as long as you have an extra controller and willing friends, you can spend hours thrashing them with the myriad of weapons you have unlocked.
The sound is unfortunately a tad ordinary. The theme tunes for each stage are forgettable.
Soul Calibur II is, in my mind, one of the finest fighting games on the PS2, and if you're a fan of the fighting genre, you should have this game in your collection already. Nuff said! ;)
