Epinions Right On The Mark

by  mikosuave,  Jul 6, 2006
Pros: Price. "Simplicity". Power. Remote control.
Cons: Audiofiles think you need a Lamborghini when a Corvette will "do".
The Bottom Line: Hits the mark, read the specs, no buyers remorse.
Review: This is a great home stereo for your general use and packs enough power (former young male military party-type) and pure sound (very low thd, great range, no weak areas) to keep me totally happy. Sounds GREAT on my Bose 301. I replaced my Onkyo TX-38 ...

Epinions Stereo, you know, 2 channels, no DVD player!

by  dalesky,  Aug 30, 2004
Pros: Reasonably priced (don't pay more than $120) basic good quality stereo receiver/amplifier
Cons: Limited to 2 channel sound, and no turntable input. That's about it. Nice unit
The Bottom Line: Just have a little to spend, or just want stereo? This is a value, and is easy to use.
Review: Here is your simple, uncomplicated unit. It operates easily, and quite intuitively. Want to store a channel in memory, and assign it to a preset number? No problem, just tune to the station, push the memory button, then push the preset number of your ...

Epinions A Great Stereo Receiver for the Right Application

by  h2c911sc,  Mar 8, 2006
Pros: Relatively Inexpensive, Simplicity in a basic stereo 2 Channel Receiver with Two Pair Speaker Controls
Cons: May not be powerful enough for some listener's volume levels.
The Bottom Line: Simple clean design and layout on a good basic 2-channel stereo receiver platform that will provide clean quality sound to speakers wired in two different rooms
Review: I had been searching the net for an affordable yet attractive basic stereo receiver. Having installed stereo in-wall speakers in both the master bedroom and master bath for music, it was important that this receiver have both switch-able A and B speaker ...

Epinions Stereo Lives, but ...

by  mrsaturn,  Aug 10, 2004
Pros: Clean power, nice design, does the job
Cons: Not for loud freaks, obviously a throwaway design to satisfy a small niche
The Bottom Line: This is need-based, I suppose. If you want the best deal, this isn't it. But if you want stereo and don't demand tons of power, go for it.
Review: Whatever happened to two channels? I can't seem to justify playing music on any more than two speakers. Lots of people have gotten caught up in the 5.1/7.1 craze that manufacturers are pushing, but the fact remains that truly high-end systems (Revel, ...

Epinions Looked Good in the Store

by  gorditadog,  Dec 28, 2005
Pros: Price is right and tuner works fine.
Cons: I really expected more from a Sony.
Review: Buttons on face are easy to read in the light, but when I put in my stereo cabinet had to set up a mini-light to see them. Remote well-designed and easy to use. Underwhelming 100 watts per channel. Couldn't hook up my turntable- no phono or aux ...

Epinions A few thoughts regarding the STR DE 197

by  discgolfer321,  Aug 21, 2007
Pros: Simple system that is easy to install and easy to operate.
Cons: This unit does NOT have a phono hookup and very weak sound.
Review: I purchased this SONY unit because I have a wonderful collection of classical records, a great Pioneer turntable with a brand new needle and the man at Best Buy said it would work. So as I attempted to hook everything up, I noticed the lack of a phono ...

Epinions Just to be thorough...

by  athon,  Aug 2, 2005
Pros: Digital volume control Decent remote
Cons: Bad sound Power rating seems incorrect (Sony spec) Bad speaker binding posts
The Bottom Line: My recommendation is to use this for fullrange music reproduction only if you are deaf.
Review: Sony STR-DE 197 review by CheapboxAudiophile This unit is a far far cry from what you could call audiophile grade equipment. I only bought one because I needed a cheap poweramp for my TL subwoofers. Its use in my system is confined to the sub-50 Hz ...
