XL-2100 Lamp - one year, then five

The Bottom Line: If your reading this you probably already own a TV that uses this lamp. Bright side, other folks have had long lasting lamps like my second one.
This review comes as a result of my having to purchase the third lamp since buying my Sony KDF-60XBR950 LCD television. I am not affiliated with Sony in any way, merely a consumer of their products.
Initially I was somewhat disappointed at having to replace the OE lamp at about one year, giving me concern as to the cost of owning this excellent television. However, the replacement lamp which I purchased online has lasted at least five years, as best I can calculate. Why the difference? Don't know, but I hope the later continues. I'm completely satisfied with this TV's picture via this lamp. The plexi screen cover is great. I don't have any scratches, even with it having been occasionally cleaned by a well intentioned guest with a dish rag and hand towel.
Contrast is superb, though no question direct sunlight makes viewing subpar. The picture can't really get any better with std. cable/sat/DVD. I myself like the fact that I can rejuvenate the TV by replacing the lamp myself without needed a technician. I didn't notice a deterioration in the picture quality prior to the the lamp replacement indicator blinking.
