Sonys MDR-V300 Headphones have been so neatly folded away in my stereo cabinet that I almost forgot that I owned them. Unfortunately, I have been robbing myself of memorable musical listening experiences for the last eight or nine months by not having them out and listening to them.
A nice touch is the folding construction of these headphones which allows very compact storage of the MDR-V300 headphones. This makes them easy to store in a computer case, briefcase/suitcase while traveling, or neatly stored away in your music cabinet.
These are very durable headphones. I know this because they have survived my son using them when he comes home, and they have survived two of his visits that were each two months long in duration. After his visit ended the headphones still looked fairly new and most importantly, sounded just like the first time I had the pleasure of listening through them.
What is really important for a set of headphones? Sound is, of course! The Sony MDR-V300 Studio Monitor Series Headphones has exceptional sound. It is delivered with 30 mm diameter drive units that customize for a deeper bass sound. What is impressive about the headphones is that you hear a distinguishable difference when comparing them to other headphones. This is what made me decide on this set. I could not find one set of headphones that even came near the sound delivered for the price range these are in. I did not want to spend over $50.00, and I was able to purchase these for $34.99. I listened to several pricier headphones and wasnt nearly as satisfied with the sound delivered until I was well over the $100.00 range. Overall, the audio experience with the headphones is nothing short of stunning.
The MDR-V300 headphones are also quite light and therefore very comfortable. The ten-foot cord is also a big plus because it allows for a large radius of movement without having to take off the headphones. The closed ear design enhances the sound by keeping the external noise interference to a bare minimum. They have a well padded construction that fits your ears very snugly and allows you to adjust them by rotating them up or down.
The headband is wide which allows distribution of the headphones weight over a wider area. This reduces the pressure that some headbands can cause after a few hours of listening.
The Sony MDR-V300s also came with a UniMatch plug system. This has a miniplug for use with portable equipment and a detachable phone plug for use with studio and home audio equipment. The plugs are also gold-plated to resist corrosion for low noise.
I can do nothing but recommend the Sony MDR-V300 set of headphones to anyone looking for a good set of headphones in the $30.00 to $50.00 range. But, since sound as well as comfort are very subjective, I think it is important to make sure you get the right headphones for your head by taking a CD shopping with you that you are familiar with and use it to compare the sound of the different headphones. If you just happen to choose the Sony MDR-V300 headphones, I dont think you will be disappointed with your listening pleasure as well as your level of comfort while listening through these headphones.
