This stereo has an impressive sound. It comes with 2 standard speakers and one subwoofer. The subwoofer makes a huge difference in the sound quality. It gives this system great bass for a very low price. We have connected the stereo to our DVD player and it has totally transformed the sound quality of our movies. I feel a bit like I'm in a movie theater. I didn't think I could get that for a low price.
My mp3 player (Zen Microphoto) works beautifully with this system. I can boost the volume with the mp3 player or use the volume control on the stereo. As with the DVD player, I'm impressed with the sound quality in combination with my mp3 player. One cannot control which tracks on the mp3 player play by using the stereo remote control. That's a bit of a disadvantage.
The stereo has the capacity for 3 CDs and it's compatible with mp3 and other types of files. It has one audio input jack, which is located on the front of the system. The jack allows you to connect your mp3 player, DVD player, or another device to the machine. The location on the front of the machine is a little annoying. I hate looking at the cords sticking out of it.
The equalizer is pre-programmed with four different sound types: rock, pop, jazz, and flat. It does not give the user the ability to adjust the equalizer freely, however. In other words, you have to choose one of the pre-programmed options. This can be a little frustrating from time to time. Generally, I just use the "rock" option, but sometimes the treble seems out-of-balance. I wish that I had more freedom to adjust the equalizer settings.
The overall appearance of the machine isn't pleasing. It's a little dull and there's a funky red in the center of the stereo. It just isn't flashy. It is compact, however. I certainly like that. Another minor problem is the short length of the speaker cables. The cables aren't long enough to allow you much flexibility in placement of the speakers. You have to keep them near the stereo.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this system. There are some weaknesses, but they pale in comparison to the sound quality. This system works beautifully as a primary sound system for my home.
