As far as headphone volume, sound quality, and durability, the club/rave DJ sets one of the highest standards. It's just not practical to buy headphones that are too quiet, have a sub-par frequency response, or will break in a month or two. I spent $100 on a pair of Sony's MDR-V600's a little under a year ago, and was blown away!

The MDR-V600s have a thick, comfortable ear-cup which, even after several months of being held tightly against my ear with my shoulder, still has its original form and texture. The headband is shaped in such a way that tipping one phone behind your neck is very comfortable for one-sided monitoring. If the tip method doesn't work for you, the ear-pieces can each swivel up and out of the way very easily.

Durability is another great feature the MDR-V600s offer. I had a pair of these 'phones for 10 months as an active rave DJ, and I never once needed to perform _any_ repairs on any parts at all. Since I'm a DJ, I also have a tendency to crank the volume up to dangerous levels. Even with the jacked-up headphone amps built into DJ mixers, I have never blown a speaker on an MDR-V600. These things are almost invincible!

Another bonus for a DJ is the thick, durable, coiled audio cable. Coiled cables are a must-have for DJs - No sense stepping on a straight cord as you stand up behind the mixer and ripping the cord out of your ear-piece (something I've seen done, and done myself, several times). Sony's cable is thick, flexible, and long enough to give you freedom to move around without taking the headphones off. The only time I ever _did_ have a problem with cable is when I slammed the jack itself in a car door. This of course crunched all the connections inside, but repairs proved quick and easy with a solder iron and a steady hand (the wires inside the cables are _tiny_, so no coffee before you do the work).

The MDR-V600 headphones are not the lowest priced phones, but for durability, quality, volume, and price, there's no competition.
