All you'll ever need in a studio headphone

If you spend any amount of time in a studio like I do you'll know how very important it is to have quality headphones at your disposal. Not all studio speaker are the same and if you always want to hear your recordings on a level playing field studio headphones are very very important. Sony doesn't fail to deliver here and these headphones will be in my recording arsenal for a long time.

Quality: Two years of use and I haven't noticed any falter in sound quality. One thing I noticed after a few weeks of real usage is that the cord (which is spiraled) became permanently twisted. This can be annoying if your try to concentrate on the music only to be attacked by your twisting headphone cord.

Sounds quality is wonderful and frequency range is very wide even in the lower register. If you have never used professional headphones before you will really notice the difference from a regular headphone especially in the category of clarity. The headphones are meant to cover your entire ear effectively cutting off most if not all outside noise. This allows the listener to hear only what their supposed to and increases the clarity of the sound.

From the people I work with I have heard one of two responses to comfort. 1. They are heavenly 2. they can hurt after long periods of use. If your looking to buy these go to your local Sony store, ask if you can test out these headphones or ones like them to see if they fit you okay and if they hurt at all. Sony is usually pretty good about this kind of thing and if the clerk thinks he's going to get a big sale off of you then he'll no doubt help you out.

Features: These headphone come with a reasonable warranty and you also get a nice carrying bag and a very detailed and easy to use parts list. You can order anything on these headphones that has broken and this leads to the realization that you will never ever need another pair of studio headphones.

I work in a studio part time and we have six of these headphones. Only has one broken in the studio, this lead to us trying to fix it ourselves with ordered parts which is a pain because in taking the headphones apart you can easily break sensitive material. This leads to the use of Sony support center which can be slow in fixing some products because they ship a lot stuff away to get fixed.

You also get a 1/4 inch jack component that fit's over your 1/8 inch double ribbon sleeve jack. If you have spent any time in a studio you'll know these things get lost A LOT and replacing them can be annoying, so it's good that you get a free one to start off.

things to look out for: If you don't work in a studio and just want a really good pair of headphones I would look elsewhere because these (although durable) are not meant to be lugged around in a book bag or left in a cold car all night. They will break if misused and when you spend more money on headphones then you would on bookshelf speaks you want to protect your investment.

Subsequently I would only recommend these to people who are actually going to do some studio work and not too anyone trying to impress people because their headphone say "professional" on the side.
