Product Review

Why did I try Sony again?

by   voban ,   May 9, 2006

Pros:  Space saving, fast tape rewind

Cons:  Extremely slow DVD loading, ejecting. Cumbersome remote, DVD sound stopped working after one year.

The Bottom Line:  Do not buy. Sony seems to be getting lazy and cheap with their product quality overall.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I have had terrible luck with DVD-VCR combos. The Sony SLV-D350P that I have now was a new unit that we got in exchange for a different brand combo that we had DVD problems with in April 2005.

We had purchased a Best Buy warranty luckily in Jan. 2003 when we purchased our original unit...the one we returned in April 2005.

When we were offered a new unit off the shelf, we chose the Sony even though I'd had some bad luck with their products in the past. I should have known it was junk.

I like the space-saving aspects of the DVD-VCR combo units. Unfortunately, our Sony replacement, just over one year old this month, is not working. Now there is no sound when playing DVDs, everything else works, just absolutely no sound when playing DVDs.

Just what am I supposed to do with this piece of garbage?
I've got a perfectly good VCR and no DVD player. I am so disgruntled with this whole industry. I am thinking about buying two inexpensive separate DVD and VCR players, but I need to save space.

The last inexpensive DVD player that I got for one of our TVs only lasted about a year and died.

If I purchase another DVD-VCR combo it will be the third one that I've purchased in just over three years...if I choose to go this route again.
