Ok

Date of Review: Dec 12, 2007

I needed a USB card reader that would read Smartmedia, SD, and Memory Stick cards. Unfortunately this reader does not appear to read Smartmedia even though this is an advertised feature. I've tried two of them and neither would read the 64MB Olympus Smartmedia card that came with my Olympus C-4040. I have an old Sandisk reader which reads my Smartmedia card just fine, so I know it's not my card that's the problem. It performed adequately with the other two card types I needed to read. Also the included software which would supposedly replace the icons for the 'disks' that the reader creates in Windows Explorer with graphic representations of the different card types worked only occasionally. Sometimes I would see little pictures of an SD or Memory Stick or other type card in place of the regular drive icons, and other times I would see regular windows drive icons. There appeared to be no rhyme or reason to this.

Recommended to buy: No

Pros
Appears to support at least some of the card types it claims to support.
Cons
Does not appear to support all card types (specifically Smartmedia) that it claims to.
