Author's Review
I bought this unit from Amazon because of the other review on this very site. I should have been suspicious because the hyperlink on the other guy's review linked directly to another review site that's owned by Sony. If this is the best unit that the other person owned, all I can say is that he is missing out big time. The boombox itself looks cool. The pot head neon colors and silly shape work, but the acoustics suffer. With or without the Mega Bass enabled, the unit sounds nasal, and there is a very noticeable hiss at low volumes. The manual even says that the unit gives "less than 10% distortion". I'm not kidding! 10 percent! That's worse than the typical 1970's boombox. The text display can only show about 10 characters at a time, so it will constantly scroll. The FM tuner section has terrible selectivity. I live close to an FM station, and I can only pick up about 3 or 4 fm's and even then there are terrible artifacts all over the dial. The AM section seems to be OK, though. This review is so harsh because I had been eagerly anticipating this boombox for about a week and when I received it I was disappointed. Oh I almost forgot: Whenever you change the radio station or CD track, you get a LOUD annoying POP from the unit. By the way, there is constant talk on the internet and in stores about the great quality of Sony products. This is absolute bulllshiit. Sony products used to be OK, but ever since they began manufacturing them in Mexico in the 90's, the quality has taken a nose dive. If you like good audio gear like I do, this boombox is not for you. Sony is doing the same thing Bose does, which is stand behind a name that was great in years past. I would compare the quality of this unit in a class with the GPX units at Walmart.
