I picked up this unit from Best Buy for $179 and returned it one week later. My main complaints with the unit were a) that it was completely dependent on the remote for basic functions and b) that it had problems reading DVDs that other units in the house had NO PROBLEMS with. For example, I had rented "Super Bad" and while watching the video there was "jitter" almost every 90 seconds - it became unwatchable. However, that same DVD played completely fine in the Samsung unit we have. It is possible that I just had a bad unit but I've seen this behavior before in lower-quality readers...and I would have expected something better from Sony.
My other main gripe is that the unit doesn't have an eject key on the player itself. You need to get your hands on the remote just to load/unload the unit which, in 2007, I find to be ridiculous. I agree with one of the other reviewers: I don't think Sony is what it used to be.
