Playstation vs. N64
Date of Review: Jun 4, 2000
This is a comparison of the two systems so you will find a duplicate review under the N64 heading.
I am not by any means a true gamer. I am just an ordinary everyday "Joe" who likes to blobout in front of the Tube. So, I thought I'd give my opinion as to which is better, the N64 or Playstation.
Price: While both systems are in the same price range, the games for the N64 are far more expensive than Playstation's. N64 games range from $40-$60 and up where as Playstation games range from $20-$40. One drawback to the Playstation is that since it is a CDROM based system. If you want to save your game you need to buy a memory card which is another $10-$15.
Games: The games for the N64 may be more expensive, but the games are more appealing. One drawback to the Playstation games is there is not a whole lot of variety. Don't get me wrong, I like to play games like "Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo" but that's all Playstation seems to have. If it's not blood and guts or shoot 'em up, it's sports. I also like to play games like "Zelda and Star Wars Rogue Squadron." Playstation has a larger game library, but N64 has more variety.
Game Play: I found that the N64 games are a little easier to play than Playstation's. Part of that is due to the enormous amount of buttons on both system's controllers. The N64 controller settings are well thought out and easy to use. Where as the Playstation controller settings can be somewhat confusing at times.
Graphics: The graphics on both systems are truly outstanding. The Playstation graphics seem more lifelike compared to the N64 that has an animated cartoon like quality.
Overall, both systems, in my opinion are really good. If you are going to buy a system for your kids I would go with the N64. The Playstation is geared toward teens and adults.
