Author's Review
I recently purchased this MD Player, and when I tried it for the first time, I was amazed at how much music this little baby can hold! A Single MD holds 5HOURS of music, sony says this is 600Tracks of about 5minutes each |NOT TRUE! I say mostly about 100Tracks|
FURTHER EXPLAINATION:
What is MD and brief history?
MiniDiscs were announced in 1991 by Sony as a disc based digital medium for recording and distributing consumer audio that is ``near CD'' in quality. In 1993 Sony announced MD Data, a version of the MiniDisc for storing computer data. They were supposed to out rule the old Tapes, but CD's eventually smashed them, almost 10years later Sony releases it with computer support.
What is ATRAC?
ATRAC is the format that these MD players use, consider it as an MP3 file but even smaller, a 3MB mp3 can be broken down to a (lower quality) 50-500k file. Now when I say lower quality, don't take this into a negative. Though in tech. words it is low, but it sounds just as the same as the mp3, so this is good! Let me repeat THE SOUND IS GREAT!
IPOD vs MP3 vs MD?
Lets Compare the MD Player vs an IPOD:
1Who beats storage> IPOD . in the GB range!
2Who beats price range> MD Player . $70-$99 *md* vs $200+
3Who beats memory/battery> MD Player . The IPOD's have a poor battery, once the battery is drained, Apple makes you buy a new unit. Apple is currently fixing this? MD players have removable batteries use a standard AA battery, a battery lasts for 52HOURS during playback (but the battery wastes faster when you record!)
FINAL WORD, So if you want to spend $$$ and need high storage get an IPOD otherwise get an MD player.
Lets Compare the MD Player vs an MP3 Player:
1Who beats storage> MD Player Beats, most mp3 are @ 250MB
2Who beats price range> MD Player . $70-$99 *md* | MP3 players go for $120 cheapy brand.
3Who beats memory/battery> MD Player , MP3 Players mostly use built in memory which requires a little more battery power and once battery is removed there is a chance that you lose the Data on it, if it is flash memory, if it uses card memory than the case is these cards are expensive go for $30 for like 256MB, MD's @ 650MB go for $2
Final Thought: You know who wins!
The Software, I hear it's really bad?
Well software ranges per person, I personally have had no problems with Sonic Stage, It's pretty easy and str8 foward. Shall you encounter any issues with this Then use Real Player.
What can this use?
A Night Light!
Well if you are on a budget, then the MD player is right for you, If you want Something big (consider HI-MD) or Ipods.
