Product Review

These headphones are junk!

by   bolbert ,   Jan 30, 2007

Pros:  There are few pros to these headphones except that they are comfortable.

Cons:  Difficult to position on contact pin for recharging, hiss, pop, etc.

The Bottom Line:  There are better brands out there, consumers beware and do NOT purchase the Sony brand of wireless headphones as they are not worth the asking price.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

The Sony wireless headphones are not worth the $99 (plus tax) I spent on them. I bought these headphones for my husband because when I am grading my student's assignments I find it distracting to hear the TV blaring. Sadly, I chose the Sony brand due to “brand recognition” rather than consumer savvy. The Sony brand of wireless headphones have been an absolute disappointment since the day I purchased them. In order for these headphones to recharge they must be positioned on top of a tiny contact pin on the transmitter base and it is extremely difficult to align the headphones with the contact pin due to the design of the base. The range is supposed to be 150 feet, in actuality, these headphones start “hissing” at 3 feet! Even using the noise filter and adjusting the “channel selector” on the transmitter does not work. Sometimes these headphones just “switch over” to some other channel and the listener ends up watching one program while listening to another. These headphones will also frequently produce a loud “pop” sound and then go dead. When I called the 1-800 number I was told that I could mail the headphones back to the service center and for a fee of $25 (plus S&H to the service center) they would replace the headphones. I believe that would be simply throwing my money away as part of the problem is a design fault of the headphones. I just purchased a different brand of wireless headphones and they are great. Unlike the Sony, my new ones do not hiss, pop or pick up odd signals and they rest easily on the transmitter base connecting without hassle to the contact pin. This tells me that the problem is not due to our TV or surroundings but rather a problem with the Sony product. There are better brands out there, consumers beware and do NOT purchase the Sony brand of wireless headphones.
