Author's Review
My wife and I pretty much stumbled into this TV unit while we were looking for Xmas presents at an electronics store. There were several TVs in the display/open box items tables, and this TV happened to be one of them. I browsed at several TVs on the tables and found the Sony flat screen to be the best of whats available and it would be perfect to put in our bedroom. Since the reduced price tag was out of our budget, coupled by our low priority of needing a TV, we initially opted not to buy it. With the salesperson (who happened to be the store manager) noticing the many items we were buying, plus my interest in the TV, she offered to slash the price of the TV in half! My wife and I figured this is a deal that's too good to pass up and bought the unit, along with an extended warranty (just in case as it is an open box item)! Anyway, on with the review...
First and foremost, what drew me to the TV was its size and how perfect it would be for our bedroom. The 24" screen is not too big where it takes a lot of your bedroom space, nor is it too small where you'll have to squint everytime you're watching the TV while in bed.
Secondly, the picture quality is amazing! There is a definite picture quality difference between our previous bedroom TV unit. Granted the Sony is a brand new unit, but the updated picture technology way surpasses the technology of TVs that were bought at least 10 years ago (like my wife's old TV). The Sony's picture quality are crisper, richer and full of life. Having the flat screen surely is an added plus also. The flat screen takes a lot of glare off than your conventional curved TVs. With that, there's no more scooting around the bed trying to find that "sweet spot" where you'll end up having the perfect view, but in a crumpled, pretzel, body contortionist position.
Thirdly, the Sony has great stereo sound. No more mono speakers! With two sets of speakers on each side of the screen, you can now watch and listen any programming with more movie-like quality. Sure it isn't like having a surround sound system, but hey, its more than enough for our bedroom.
Finally, there are the general features you would find on this TV like you would on any other TVs. The front of the TV has TV/Video, Channel, Volume, Power, Menu buttons as well as Audio/video inputs (for easier camcorder plug in). The back of the TV has an S-Video, video, audio ins/outs and coax/antenna plug. The one thing that I love about this TV is its ability to scan and save TV channels. We don't have cable yet, but I love it how now I don't have to keep pressing the channel numbers nor would I have to keep pressing the up/down channel button to get to a channel.
Navigating through the screen menus is relatively easy. When we bought the TV, it didn't come with the original remote, but the salesperson found us another Sony TV remote and I had no problem navigating through the menus.
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. I am not basing it simply because I got the TV at a great deal, but the quality given definitely makes Sony flat screens a consideration on future TV purchases.
