Author's Review
The wave of the future is the HDTV, we have purchased this Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2. This is the set my honey was waiting for. In preparation for this televisions arrival, we have switched to Verizon Fios and installed the wires into the wall, so the television can be wall mounted.
WEIGHTS AND MEASURES
This television weighs about 66 pounds (without the pedestal) and measures 25¾ inches in overall height by 43¾ inches wide by 4½ inches in depth. The screen measures 19½ high by 34½ and 40 inches across, diagonally.
THE REMOTE
The enormous universal fully functional remote comes with two Sony double A batteries. This remote measures 9¾ inches long by 2 inches wide by 1 inch deep. The control buttons are not back lit, so it is difficult to see in low light conditions. It is bulky and awkward to hold in your hand.
ENERGY EFFICIENT
This LCD Bravia uses 227 watts of electricity while in use and uses less than 0.5 watts when in standby mode, reducing energy cost. This television is Energy Star® compliant. Yes!!!
INPUT/OUTPUT JACKS
On the underside of the frame on the left of the television are three convenience jacks for easy installation of other electronic appliances, such as stereo, Tivo, DVD player, video games and laptop computer. There are 6 additional jacks for adding components on the back of the television.
PICTURE
At this point in time, this picture is probably the best you can get in a flat panel television. The picture is very sharp, the viewing angle is very large, 178 degrees. The picture does not distort when you are too far off to one side of the set. I have never seen a more crisp, clear picture on a television set anywhere. The depth from the HD is not to be believed, unless it has been seen. I feel like I could reach in and pick up a cup of coffee from a table on a talk show.
SOUND
The television imitates surround sound speakers as they are built in along the sides of the set, rather than being placed around your room. The quality of sound is crisp and clean.
TECHNICAL DATA
There is more technical data to this television than I can possibly comprehend or explain. This information is available at www.sonystyle.com.
WHAT IS HDMI?
High Definition Multimedia Interface is a standard that was designed to simplify High Definition TV connections and wiring by carrying all the HDTV information such as picture, sound, copy protection information in just one cable with one plug between the HDTV source such as cable box and the television. Prior to the development of HDMI, it took a bundle of 5 cables to send the HDTV picture and sound from the cable box to the tv.
WHAT IS 1080p?
What 1080p means is that the resolution of the picture is 1,920 vertical pixels by 1,080 horizontal pixels and p stands for progressive scanning. With more pixels, the resolution is better. This is higher resolution than we can receive now, so there's room to grow with technology.
WHY DOES THIS TELEVISION COST SO MUCH?
Look at this picture and tell me if you have seen a better or sharper picture on any television. Lesser expensive high definition televisions, just don't match the picture quality you receive with this television.
BOTTOM LINE
It has the color replaceable bezels, to accommodate your room's decor. This is a highly technical television with the best picture I have ever seen. It's capabilities are endless and state of the art with room to grow. I love this television and if you can afford it, this is the one to get.
This television comes with a one year parts and labor warranty by Sony. For more information go to http://www.sonystyle.com.
