Amazingly Good! Great reception, bargain price!
Date of Review: Jan 20, 2004
The Bottom Line: Great radio, great gift for anyone from 5 to 95. Excellent performance in a small, simple, inexpensive package. A real bang-for-the buck champion!
My little radio arrived from SonyStyle today. Keep in mind that it cost less than $11 shipped to my door. Installed batteries & was in business- no need to read long complicated manuals for this radio!
FM reception is amazing, even plays well with the whip antenna collapsed & folded. Weaker FM stations? Unfold & extend the antenna. AM? Not so much in the daylight here, but tonight it came alive! I just heard WSM(650 AM), from Nashville- *here*, ~65 miles southwest of Texarkana! The sound is as good as you could expect for the size of the speaker & case- better actually. Looks? True, it's not as nicely styled as some older pocket radios of the late 50's through the 60's, but the performance is definitely worthy of the Sony name. Considering the price, the cons I list below are just quibbling. AM on mine seems to end at ~1610-1620 KHz- no big deal for me.
Why'd I buy it? I saw one for sale on Ebay, then searched & read a couple of good reviews on it, & figured I had to own one. Fits in a shirt pocket, no headphones to wear, & uses cheap batteries(2 AA's). I listened to a "shirt pocket symphony" tonight while walking the dog.
For ~$10, this has to be one of the great radio bargains out there. You need one- maybe two! And they'd make great(and inexpen$ive!) gifts!
Yes, I really like this little radio. Sony ICF-S10MK2.
Online, SonyStyle.com, abtelectronics.com, outpost.com all have good deals.
