Author's Review
This nice little pocket sized recorder has amazing recording capabilities, taking the faintest voice across the table and making it audible in the replay. The sound quality might be a little too crisp, picking up more background noise than one would like, but who can be picky when this little device can pick up a whisper as normal conversation! But with a built-in microphone jack, just in case, you don't have to take my word for recording softer voices!
I have had my Sony ICD-P620 for several months now, and the battery life is surprisingly longer than I expected. Running on 2 AAA batteries, the cost of keeping this puppy going is minuscule.
The included software is fast and easy to use, converting those digital recordings into various formats for disc back-up. Each time the recorder is started and stopped in record mode, it creates separate numbered files so that you can access whichever recording you need without having to scan through them all. Don't worry about accidentally deleting a file, because the erase function requires holding down a side button (not mixed in with the main function keys) and then acknowledging the delete action. Phew!
Standard headphone jacks, a hold switch and a nicely covered USB jack add the finishing touches to this nifty little device. It is not the prettiest recorder on the market and it is not the most expensive one either, but the Sony ICD-P620 gets my vote in price to value ratings, hands down!
