Great camera, but one MAJOR problem

I purchased this product in June of 2000 to celebrate my high school graduation and for use in my aspiration to become a film maker. I think it's a great camera, and has served my purposes well, but one thing is plaguing this model: mini-DV tapes tend to get stuck within the camcorder. Unfortunately for me, this always happens at key moments... such as when beginning a student film production or when I needed my camera to show my final film project to the class. The problem happens without warning; I open the tape door, stick the tape in, then a whirring noise begins. The tape becomes lodged in the camcorder, not ejecting, and not being able to record or do playback. The problem seems to lie with the ejection mechanism, but I can't be too sure. Only after extended periods of leaving the camera off, do I succeed in ejecting the tape (although it ends up messing up my projects for that day). I am not fully discouraging others from buying this product, but I wish I was aware of this problem before I purchased it, so I'd have no reason to complain.
