One of the best in it's class

Date of Review: Nov 3, 2007

The Bottom Line:  The Sony H7, although not as many features as the Canon S5 IS, takes better pictures in low light without the flash and has less black/white noise.
The Sony H7 powers up and takes multiple pictures VERY FAST! Has good photo quality for what it is (not SLR). Works well in low light w/o flash compared to most other cameras in it's class. The Macro setting is the best, like SLR, 1cm. Face recognition, up to 8 faces. Multiple shots by pressing & holding the shutter button after setting it in the menu. Fast flash & picture processing. I have done a lot of research and went with this camera.

The worst thing is the "purple Fringing" on some edges in some shots when I zoom in on the computer screen. One would think that Sony would have corrected this exposure problem already before releasing the camera. Also there is very little noticeable difference in the 5MP and 8MP picture settings even at zoom levels. There should be an automatic lens cover or at least a sensor to tell you that the lens cover is on instead of the camera just forcing it off with the lens protrusion since I always forget that it's on there. I would have waited for a 10MP model if my previous camera wasn't so lame.

Not as many features as Canon S5 IS & 2nd fastest to Canon S5 IS as far as zoom goes. I would have purchased the Canon S5 if it had a better ISO rating for low light. The Canon S5 has a lot of noise on black compared to the H7. that might explain why the S5 has a flash boot. Plus the H7 was a bit cheaper than the S5 at a local store where I got the H7 for less. NOTE TO H3 & H7 OWNERS: WHEN YOU HOOK YOUR CAMERA UP TO YOUR PC, DO NOT PRESS THE POWER BUTTON, PRESS THE PLAY BUTTON INSTEAD, THAT WAY THE LENS DOES NOT PROTRUDE AND KNOCK OFF THE LENS CAP. WHEN YOU ARE DONE, PRESS THE POWER BUTTON INSTEAD OF THE PLAY BUTTON AGAIN, FOR THE SAME REASON.
