Poor example of what used to be

I'v owned the Sony CFDG770CPK about 4 months now. I will say this is nothing like the gods that walked the earth in the mid 80's when ghetto blasters ruled.

This unit has more cons than pros. The tone is excellent and the bass is deep for a ghettoblaster. As one can see the unit is visually pleasing and the bright red glowing ring around the subwoofer is cool. I found radio reception to be fine. Radio station presets and MP3 capability when you copy the songs to a CD. Also remote, sleep time and 20 watts/ch.

The cons. The display is way to small, it should also be backlit. The unit is to deep, it feels very clumsy to be carring it by the handle. The buttons should be backlit also, as using this unit in low light is a real pain. The tape deck portion is an after thought. No auto reverse, no Dolby noise reduction. And like another reviewer mentioned the remote does not operate any of the tape functions.

The unit has a huge red glowing ring around the subwoofer that has 3 modes. Off is no bass enhancement, low is mild bass enhancement, and high is full bass enhancement from the sub. This glowing ring can get on your nerves and there is no way to shut it off and still have the sub on. It also would have been cool to be able to have the option of having the ring pulsate to the beat of the music.

The 4 equalizer presets are usless, as one or two of them actualy made the music sound flat in my opinion. It would have been much better to have a 4 or 5 band equalizer or just straight forward bass and trebile controls.

This is great for a kid or a back yard summer day.
