Soldier-The "Perfect" Killing Machine

I rented this movie because I like action/adventure flicks, and I tend to enjoy movies starring Kurt Russell.
This movie depicts the government as an agency who is basically in search of the "perfect killing machine." In the beginning of the movie the military chooses male children at birth ( I thought it interesting that they didn't think women could be bred as "killing machines"). These children are raised strictly by the military--actually their upbringing is constant brainwashing. They have no parents, they are allowed no emotions, except fear and discipline. If at some point a child/soldier is not performing as expected, that child/soldier is disposed of (killed).
These "soldiers" may be human beings, but they are raised as emotionless machines. Their sole purpose is to kill without they themselves being killed.
Kurt Russell is the best soldier the military has bred thus far. Over the years he's killed 100's of people. One day, the military decides that picking soldiers at birth is still "too tricky." They now have a "new" soldier to try out. This new soldier has been chosen based on DNA profile, and their DNA has been manipulated to make them the "best" possible soldiers capable of being produced.
Although, this movie is an action/adventure flick, it is definitely delving into the question of genetic engineering. The movie is really a battle against a "normal" human vs. a "superior" genetically engineered human.
There is a test between a "superior soldier" and the "old version", actually 3 soldiers of the "old version." Two of the three original versions are killed. Kurt Russell, does a great job of doing some major damage to the "superior soldier", but ends up being badly beaten himself. Actually, everyone thinks he's dead.
The military decides to dispose of Kurt Russell and the other two dead soldiers as waste. They are put on a ship that only carries garbage and are to be dumped on a planet that is basically one big huge garbage dump.
This planet "dumb" is inhabited by a group of people whose ship crashed there years before. Kurt spends a chunk of time battling his "soldier" instincts and his human instincts which are now VERY SLOWLY trying to surface.
I don't want to give away the rest of the movie. Suffice it to say it turns into a battle of good (Kurt Russell) vs. evil (the superior soldiers).
This is a great film for a rainy day, and older kids would probably enjoy the fight scenes (since they're probably not interested in the underlying message).
