The Latest and Greatest!
Date of Review: May 28, 2000
I am a true soap opera fan. When I was little, I used to watch ?All My Children? with my Mom. In fact, that?s where I got my daughter, Tara?s, name. From the character of Tara Martin on AMC, always loved that name. I know soaps are sometimes unrealistic but I love the daily escape from my own problems(we all have them don't we? ) It is also always nap time at my home and my time to relax, watch the soaps and read Soap Opera Digest.
I am a subscriber of Soap Opera Digest, which arrives in my mailbox weekly. I love reading the inside scoop on the shows, actors and actresses. Unlike a lot of soap magazines, the facts are all true and not just rumored. If it is ?rumored? then it states so.
The magazine is small, so it?s easier to take with you and also to hold (while reading). It?s relatively cheap too! I subscribe to 50 issues at a time, making each issue only $1.56 per issue (vs. the $2.99 store price).
There is always a great Cover Story. This particular week was The Hottest Summer Stories. It gave a brief synopsis of the hottest stories burning in each show.
My favorite section is the beginning of the magazine. That is where you find the; Late-Breaking News, Comings & Goings (all actors/actresses coming and leaving all shows), VCR Alert (must-see days not to forget to set the VCR timer), and the Click Photo Section. I love the Click section, it?s all photographs of the soap stars at different events. Examples of different events are Fan Events, cast parties and benefits. The soap stars are always right on top of fashion.
You can also find interviews with the stars; Calander of events (bdays of the stars, anniversaries of important dates on shows); Roundup (SOD asks the stars a different question weekly and prints their answers); Scoreboard (lists all pregnancies, divorces, marriages, etc for the week); Thumbs Up! And Down! (a blue ribbon and booby prize section on story lines); Where Are They Now (what are your favorite soap stars doing after they leave soaps) and my personal favorite?.. the Crossword Puzzle. It?s one crossword that I can almost complete (lol) since I?m a soap buff.
The last part of the magazine is great for people who work and don?t know how to set a timer on a VCR , the Soap Synopses. It details what happened to each soap over the last week and also a What Will Happen paragraph. It gives you just a few highlights of what will be happening on you favorite soap next week.
Lastly, there is a Sound Off section where SOD prints letters/emails from fans, Ask Us where they answer questions from fans and the Mail Bag where SOD tells us what the hottest topics of the mail that they receive are.
This magazine is a must for all soap fans!!
