Author's Review
After using numerous disposable 35mm u/w cameras, paying $40 for purchase and processing of 27 pictures, and being disappointed with the picture quality, I decided I wanted a digital u/w camera for my upcoming Caribbean cruise. There aren't many reviews on the I/C 600, but at $150, I figured I couldn't get hurt too bad. I put a 2mb SD in and bought 2650 rechargables. On the trip, I took around 20 pictures over-water and 400 pictures / 6 short videos underwater. Wow, the pictures and videos came out GREAT! It takes better above-water pictures than a more expensive digital subcompact I own and the underwater pictures are excellent! Due to wind, I was unable to dive with it in Grand Cayman, but I snorkeled with it in Key West (sunny) and Roatan (rainy) and got great pictures in both places. The macro makes great close-up underwater pictures, but its hard to avoid blurry pictures with the zoom. It is truly amazing to be able to take u/w videos! Sure, they're slightly grainy, but they still look great on an 11" LCD frame. Another review stated that the flash is useless in the housing - This is true as the zoom bezel blocks the flash from the lower left quadrant of shots. While I couldn't check it out below 33 ft, I'd assume a red filter and exterior flash would be needed for these shots. Out of 400 shots, I culled only 30 blurry ones, which I consider low. There's a shutter lag, so its hard to correctly time the moving fish pictures, in sunlight it is sometimes hard to see the LCD screen and the screen is only 2.4" and grainy - but it only costs $150 bucks! With the 2650 Duracell rechargables, I had no battery life issues. I took 200 pictures and 3 minutes of videos and only used half the battery. If you are looking for a professional u/w camera, this isn't it. But, if your looking for an affordable and flexible camera for good basic under and over water pictures, you can't go wrong with this one!
