Author's Review
This television series is by far my favorite of all time.
Season six being filled with awesome adventure and so many twists and turns, it makes it very hard to wait for the next episode to air.
Smallville started out telling the story of Clark Kent's young life the way no other story line ever has, and although the first season started out in high school, each and every season has moved closer and closer to the Superman we know and love. These are no longer high school kids, but an intelligent and brave bunch of adults.
My personal opinion has always been, that this television series was always made with plans to take it to the big screen. I can honestly say, that out of all the shows on television, this is the only one that converts our living room into our own home theatre. It may sound silly, but my husband and myself look forward to each Thursday night with great excitement, and put everything and everyone else aside for this show.
I have always been a sci-fi fan, with Star Trek and many of the other shows the WB has to offer, but none of them look like they could convert to a movie theatre without a lot of changes, Smallville can.
Season 6 also introduced even more players from Marvel Comics, such as the Justice League, and Brainiac. The plots have became so thick with intrigue, that the 46 minute show every week just simply isn't enough, it always leaves us panting for more. We recently received the DVD collection for Christmas, and it is of course much better than watching it on the television, and the DVD's have extra and extended scenes that you don't see on the weekly series or commercial networks.
Each episode of this show, morphs more into the familiar things we know about Superman, while some of the characters, like Lana Lang, show the deep dark side to their nature. Lois Lane who was introduced a few seasons ago as Cloe's cousin (Clark's sidekick) brings a fresh new spin on the character, and how Clark and she met. We can't help but wonder how the love story between her and Clark will play out, not to mention we can't wait to see it happen.
Clark has also met the character called Bizarro, which is one of the escaped beings from the phantom zone, and has the ability to look like Clark, but is actually like an evil twin. Clark himself, while getting smarter and wiser, is also torn by the fact that deep down he knows that his destiny lies with the side of helping humanity, and maybe even becoming part of the Justice League, run by Oliver Queen, and known as the Green Arrow, but his love for Lana has his priorities twisted. This causes him a great deal of turmoil, but as we begin to see in season 6, Lana may be the last person Clark should be putting his faith and trust in, as she has become more like a Luther than even Lionel Luther is.
Speaking of Lionel, not only has he discovered Clarks secret, but he has actually turned out to be a pretty good guy, who is protecting Clark from harm, especially harm from Lex, who is becoming more demented and evil at every passing turn.
In closing, I would suggest that if you like fantasy and sci-fi, the superman legacy, and have never seen this show, you really should rent a few seasons on DVD and catch up. If you don't want to start from the beginning, I recommend at least starting with season 3 or 4, as this is one of the best television series on the story of Superman that ever was. Even Christopher Reeves himself, who played in a few episodes before he died, most assuredly gave Tom Welling his blessing as he "passed the baton" to our newest hero.
