The Enviracaire EWM-220s design is very science lab like which is pretty neat. It's very simple to operate. There's an on/off button and a dial that can be turned to adjust desired humidity level. The dual one gallon water tanks have rubberized grips and are pretty easy to fill. I wish the opening was a little bigger though so I could use my bathtub faucet to just blast water in there. The unit itself is a little bit bulky being about the size of two soccer balls put together, but it is sturdily built.
After my previous Honeywell GWM-331 unit broke down in a week, I opted to do research in finding a quality humidifier. I decided that I would not spare too much expense and get something more exceptional that I can use for the long run. I read about the EWM-220 and how it uses UV light to kill all microbes before the mist is released into the air and this made me highly attracted to the unit. But when it came to humidifying performance, this unit left much to be desire. So in comparing the two units' ability to humidify a room, the Honeywell unit did a significantly better job. The Enviracaire unit can last over 18 hours, but only marginally humidifies the room. The main reason why I bought a humidifier was to avoid having a dry mouth and sore throat during the night so I could sleep better. During the first few nights I used it, I had to check the unit two or three times in the middle of the night to make sure it was on. This shows how functionally underwhelming the EWM-220 is. It didnt do much at all to aid in my comfort and sleep.
The unit takes about 1.5 hours to "warm up" before it really gets going. It makes a rhythmic gurgling sound while it is in operation which can bother some while sleeping. It's not too loud where one cant sleep through it (about half as loud as a Mr. Coffee machine), but its a very noticeable distraction.
After reading all the glaring reviews about this unit, I came away very disappointed after using it first-hand. The EWM-220 is very solidly built, easy to use, and the germ-free aspect of it is a huge plus. But it makes a little too much noise and cant humidify a room worth a darn. Anyone, please post a review of a humidifier that is quiet, effective, and decently priced if you know of one. I have yet to find anything that is remotely satisfactory.
