Author's Review
In my home, we have stereos, cd boomboxes, cd changers/players, portable cd players, mp3 players, iPods, you name it. And with 4 people and 4 very different tastes in music, having headphones like the Skullcandy Sk Pro come in very handy when the rest of the house does not want to listen to my show tunes from The South Pacific!!!
When I first opened this gift that my husband gave me on my birthday (along with some kickin cds to go with them), I thought it was a JOKE. I had never heard of "Skull Candy", as a matter of fact, I was concerned about what kind of company makes candy for your skull. But it is very clever, and much like "eye candy", it rocks!! I have been through several headphones in the last 4 or 5 years, usually cheap, flimsy, weak phones that does not block out the rest of the world, and would cut out in one or both sides after a few months of wear and tear. I am happy to report that skullcandy is still rockin' and rollin' for me.
Not only does it sound professional, as if you were in an actual studio, but it blocks out all of the racket like televisions, kids, the phone, video games systems, and your own thoughts. It drowns all of it out. You can hear all of the instruments with clarity and they really do sound different when listening to songs on different headsets. The shape of the phones are designed to maximize the power of sound. It comes with a 6 foot cord and adapter that will plug into most systems. If someone in your life wants a future career as a DJ, this is the set you want for them (or yourself) The earphones move at a 90 degree angle, and have the quality of a professional DJs set and system.
Now, I have to tell you, when I first saw these, my first thought was "How Marcia Brady". I actually accused my husband of giving me a gag gift. That is, until I placed the leather clad phones on my head, and slipped the padded earphones over my ears. It felt so GOOD. Normally, whether I am using ear-buds or any other headset, I get uncomfortable easily. These may look very Brady on your head, and people might even laugh at you, but you will listen to your music in luxury. I have had these in the bath, outside, I have lied down on my side, with my head in my goosedown pillow while wearing these, and they never cut into my ear or hurt my head, like the plastic bands on most earphones have.
If you are a music-buff, and aren't afraid of being a little retro, I would pick these up based on both sound and comfort. They are very durable, and I have never lost them around the house. My kids have their very own now, and there is no clashing of Blue's Clues and Ozzy, anymore! My only downfall is that they are very youth-orienated, and much like Hello Kitty is not my style, I had to get out of my mommy-stage to feel age-appropriate wearing these!
My son uses his for playing Rock Band, and along with his electric guitar. This is great for kids who have audio/sensory issues, like my youngest son who hates distracting noises. It is good to let this attractive and booming headset help you escape from reality! Great for musicians, students, and makes a great gift for anyone!
