Skip Hop Pacifier Pocket is Handy Dandy

Before our son was born, I ordered the Skip Hop Pacifier Pocket from babystyle.com. I ordered this product because I had heard many, many stories from friends detailing their quest to find a place to hold their child’s pacifier safely (free from a germy diaper bag or even a purse!). The Skip Hop Pacifier Pocket seemed to be a really handy way to carry a pacifier for our son. I am happy to say that this product was a great asset in our arsenal!

Who is Skip Hop?
Skip*Hop is a New York City (my hometown!) based company that is “devoted to designing products for a new generation of parents”. The company is known to make stylish and innovative products for today’s parents. They also are a company who pays it forward: with every Skip*Hop purchase you make, a portion of your purchase is donated to several different charities. The two top charities that Skip*Hop donates to are the Pediatric Aids Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

What is the Skip Hop Pacifier Pocket, How Much is It and Where Can I Buy It?
The Pacifier Pocket is a convenient pacifier holder that holds up to two pacifiers at a time. It has a zipper on the top and a very small pouch on the exterior front. There is also a small handle strap on the pocket that allows you to attach the product (by snapping) onto anything you chose: your diaper bag strap, your purse strap, your stroller…anywhere! It comes in either red or black and it is made of poly-canvas. The dimensions of this product are 3.5” wide X 3.5” high X ½” deep. It retails for approximately $7.99. You can purchase this product at various brick & mortar stores as well as many retailers online.


Our Experiences with the Skip Hop Pacifier Pocket
The Pacifier Pocket worked very, very well for us. I began using it early on – from the first time that my son and I ventured outside after giving birth. The Pacifier Pocket has never let us down!
I would use the pocket by simply attaching the handle to either a strap on one of our diaper bags or onto our bottle bag (also made by Skip*Hop). The handle on the pocket has a snap button on one side and to use you just unsnap, loop around a strap and snap to lock. Please keep in mind that the handle on the pocket isn’t terribly long – so if you attempted to fit it around something wide, you will not be able to. I have a Stokke Xplory stroller and was never able to attach the Pacifier Pocket to the handle on our stroller (it is a bit wider than normal). I never had a problem with any other attempts at attachment, though. To give you an idea of our diaper bags and their strap widths, we have used the Diaper Dude Bag, the Skip*Hop Duo Deluxe, and the OiOi Messenger Bag. You can even attach the strap onto a metal fixture or bracket on one of your bags.

We used several types of pacifiers: Nuk; Avent; Goldi (a German brand). We never had any problem fitting in the two pacifiers at the same time. This includes the pacifier covers that come standard with the Avent pacifiers. The Pacifier Pocket never strained or bulged with two inside the pocket.

Before my initial use of this product, I cleaned the inside with a solution of white vinegar and water, followed by hydrogen peroxide and water to disinfect. I did this because I knew that I would be keeping items inside that would be going directly into my son’s mouth. The inside has a softer type of lining and cleaning the inside was very simple. The outside, made out of a soft-ish canvas material, was also very easy to clean. I cannot say for sure (that it is water repellent), but it appeared that water would just kind of repel off of the fabric. I never had any problem with staining (occasionally I would drop it on concrete, grass, etc.); when I would drop it I would clean with a baby wipe or soap and water and nothing ever stained.

As I stated earlier, the handle is a bit on the short side and so this limits you as to where you can hang the pacifier pocket. The only time I had somewhat of a problem was when I tried to hang the pacifier pocket onto my stroller’s handle (which has a fat, odd shaped handle). Other than that, the pocket was easy to attach virtually anywhere. We actually have two (one in black and one in red) and we kept one on the Diaper Dude bag and one on my OiOi. Granted, on our Diaper Dude bag, we snapped the pocket onto plastic hardware that attached the strap to the bag and ditto for my OiOi. But we also have used the pocket on the bottle bag from Skip*Hop and a few friends’ diaper bags/purses. The handle is for the most part secure. A few times the snap would be loose and the pacifier pocket would fall off. The times that this happened are small when compared to the total amount of times we used our pockets! This happened maybe a handful of times (and more to our red one rather than our black one).

There is a small front “pocket” on this product that I have never used! I suppose you can put….hmm…not too sure! It is pretty small and there is not a lot of room for anything. I suppose that perhaps you can fit in one of those Avent pacifier covers. I also suppose that that cover would make the pocket bulge though! Again, the pocket is not too deep and does not offer much in the way of additional storage.

This product has alleviated for us the stress of frantically searching for a pacifier in times of desperate need and helped us have peace of mind knowing that the pacifiers that we did have were safe and clean in a neat, portable, nifty little holder!

Final Thoughts
The Skip*Hop Pacifier Pocket has worked well for us. It is a sturdy product that makes your life easier. It is very easy to use and is small enough that it does not take up a lot of space. It holds two pacifiers, which is handy if one should fall and you need a back-up. It is easy to clean and attractive looking. If we ever decide to have another child, we will definitely use this product again! Two thumbs up!
