Pros: Excellent contributors, total dedication to science and reason
Cons: None! It's not for everyone, but if you're a skeptic, you'll love it
The Bottom Line: Check your preconceptions at the door.
Review: Three centuries ago, humanity entered a period of history called The Enlightenment. This period was characterized by the emphasis on reason as a method of inquiry. Most of the thinking world emerged from The Enlightenment in an enlightened state,...

by   nathantyree ,  May 14, 2003
Pros: Intelligent, and logical. A much needed resource.
Cons: May put some readers off by being too technical.
The Bottom Line: A great magazine that debunks outrageous and absurd claims in the realms of the paranormal and pseudoscience. A must read. It may be too technical for some.

by   Kessec ,  Jun 1, 2000
Pros: In-depth, well-researched, well-written, science-oriented articles examining a wide range of beliefs
Cons: Sometimes condescending or arrogant, may drive away some readers who would otherwise benefit from the magazine
Review: The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP -- pronounced "sigh-cop", in case you were wondering) publishes a bi-monthly magazine called Skeptical Inquirer. I suppose its intent is to be the answer...

Pros: Unique treatment of paranormal phenomena
Cons: If you really, really want to believe, you won't appreciate having your bubble burst.

Good material for the open minded

by   m3harri ,  Aug 6, 2002
Pros: Great source of data and thought out qualified commentary on baloney of our age
Cons: Only Bimonthy and due to book store bias hard to find.
The Bottom Line: This is the very best tool for use against the forces of ignorance and anti science. The best information about why you are right or wrong.

You Will Believe in Skepticism.

by   owlfan ,  Dec 21, 1999
Pros: Topic backgrounds and experimental details are well researched, meticulously documented and clearly presented, quickly bringing even a nonscientist reader up to speed on whatever topic is at hand.
Cons: Some topics are unavoidably technical in nature, and so are the articles that deal with them. Keep a dictionary handy for these.
Review: The Skeptical Inquirer is the primary publication of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP).

The group and its journal promote the general use of rationality and critical thinking in the evaluation...

Cons: Some articles can be dry and pedantic. Others a little technical and strident.
Review: The skeptic's motto; "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof", is the reason for the existence of this magazine. It does a superb job of holding claimants of extraordinary circumstances up to the light of reason. Recent articles...
