Product Review

Dead sirius

by   jaymelee024 ,   Aug 26, 2008

Pros:  sleek design, preset channels, memory capability, easy to read display, easy installation

Cons:  unavailability of parts when they break, has problems detecting the antenna, randomly shuts off

The Bottom Line:  I recommend that if you are going to spend 200 dollars that you spend it on a different model that doesn't wear out like this one has for me.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

Ahhh radio without commercials...every commuter's dream, right? The concept is absolutely great and I love everything about sirius itself. This receiver? There is good and bad, but first let me give you some general info on features:

The entire kit comes with the radio itself, the vehicle docking cradle and antenna, a power adapter, a remote, and two types of mounts (suction for your window or vent mounts).

Game alert, game zone, 9 preprogrammed channels you can jump around to, the ability to pause, rewind and replay 44 minutes of live radio (great for when that song comes on that you love; you can play it over and over and over again!), a memory feature in which you can store your favorite song or artist and an alert will appear when it comes on any channel. The last two listed features are absolutely fantastic and are my favorite parts of this receiver. I also like its sleek look, the brightness of the display, and the easy to read screen.

This receiver was extremely simple to install and set up as well as very easy to figure out how to use.

My major complaints have come after two years of heavy use(approximately 2 hours each day, six days a week). The docking station is no longer as steady as it once was, causing it to move all over and sometimes shut off completely. The receiver now randomly turns off and often times cannot detect the antenna even though there is nothing wrong and I did not have this problem the first year and a half nor have I changed locations or my commute. Also, sometimes my preset channels get completely wiped out for no reason, a minor inconvenience, but a pain none the less.

As far as hardware goes, I am currently on my second antenna because the first one just completely stopped working. Oddly enough, I could not find a store that sells replacement antennas and the only advice given to me was to buy a new receiver and use that instead (I was able to find a cheap antenna on ebay rather than spend 200 for another receiver).

Overall, I was extemely happy with this product the first year and half. Now however, I am much less than thrilled. I expect when I pay around 200 dollars for a small electronic device that it will last me a long time, especially when it has never been dropped or abused in any way. I recommend going with a different model than this one.
