Product Review

Terrible quality!

by   mammamercy ,   Apr 10, 2007

Pros:  Pretty color. Like the sleigh look. Easy-to-follow instructions.

Cons:  LOW-quality materials. Seriously scratched. Dried drippings from finishing process.

The Bottom Line:  Consider something else. While most of the reviews are great, there is always the chance you will get the poor-quality version like we did!

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

After doing some research on cribs for our sweet little first born son, I decided on the Simplicity for Children Ellis 4-in-1 Sleep System in Cherry. The reviews of this crib were fairly good, with a few complaints here and there about color inconsistency and some bolt holes that were not lined up just right.

Today was the day that he was going to graduate to his big-boy crib in his own room (at 5 months) and we were so excited. Upon taking the crib parts out of the box, we oohed and ahhed over the nice color and how it would match the room. As we began examining the parts and reading the instructions, we noticed a few imperfections (drips from the finishing) which we were fine with.

THEN we attempted to put this crib together and were very disappointed. Not only was it scratched ALL OVER fresh out of the box, but almost every bolt (which were actually perfectly aligned) that we put into the frame caused some part of the frame to crack. We had not even fully tightened everything yet!

To sum it up: We have one broken slat on the side (actually split in two), the back of the frame where the bolt went in cracked to the point that it broke off making the crib worthless, again this was before it was fully tightened! And where the slats connect at the bottom of one of the sides has cracked to cause all of the slats to become loose.

We are very disappointed in the poor-quality and the workmanship of this crib. For $280.00 and something that is supposed to last the child through at least elementary school, it is a piece of you-know-what! There is NO WAY that this bed would survive 10 years...maybe not even the first year in this condition!

While we are planning on calling Simplicity for Children tomorrow and DEMANDING a replacement crib or a full refund, I will seriously consider a different brand with our next child.
