Do you need a diaper change?
Date of Review: Aug 10, 2007
The Bottom Line: At $20-25 this could see a little expensive for a piece of foam with a vinyl cover, but it is worth it. Very convenient!
One essential in my new babies room three years ago was a changing pad. I knew I didn't want the traditional changing table, so we got a dresser that matches his bed and toy chest. It is long enough and wide enough to affix the Simmons Contoured Changing Pad on top. As I took the cover off to wash this morning, I wished so much that my son was 100% potty trained and I realized how good the changing pad has held. Over 100's of diaper changes have happened there and there are just now a couple of rips in the plastic that covers the pad. It has been good for us.
Use and Logistics
Measuring about 16 by 32 inches, the changing pad is a white vinyl covering a foam pad. The vinyl is made to lock out the moisture coming from baby, whether from a diaper change or getting out of the bath. This product cost about $24 for us at Toys R Us.
We placed the changing pad on the left side of the dresser and my husband attached the "male" end of the snaps that are included with the pad. They are on the back side of the dresser so you can't see them and later, when you take the pad off for good (hopefully soon) you won't see any evidence that the dresser was ever a place where baby was naked!
The straps have held up tremendously strong
Great job Simmons.
There are colorful pad covers (that you buy separately for about $7) in tons of colors. They are mostly made out of a terrycloth material. The pad covers gets snags very quickly, but don't worry. No one will notice except for mom. I have washed my cover about every week for three years and it does shrink. The good news is that it still fits over the pad. It gathers the foam underneath up a little, but after putting baby on the pad a couple of times, the pad and cover goes back to normal.
There is also a strap in which after you put baby on the pad, you can "fasten him in". This was very useful in the beginning when baby was sweet, innocent and couple roll over and fall off the dresser.
Another safety feature for me is that it is contoured on the sides. This is not very high, just enough for when baby gets older and you reach for something you know he isn't going roll off very easily.
I am satisfied
This was in baby's room before he was here and it is still hanging around. I know I am griping about him not being potty trained, but it will be sad when the day finally comes to say goodbye to the Simmons Contoured Changing Pad.
I have been totally satisfied with this product and it is one of those few "must" haves of mine (along with Desitin, the Boppy, etc.)
Happy changing and remember to hug that baby after you change him!
