The optical equivalent of Canon or Nikon...for less $

by   DCannon ,  Apr 1, 2004
Pros: Optics, price, construction, smoothness, reliability
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: This is not a "poor man's" Canon or Nikon. It's the real deal...for less $ and highly recommended.
Review: As stated in another lens review on this site, and at the risk of being redundant, I’ll be brief by saying I’ve been a professional photographer for over 30 years, and have been an optics tester, doing all the lens testing for a company in ...

An Incredible Lens at any price point

by   benjikan ,  Dec 27, 2004
Pros: Very well built. HSM works well on the Canon 20D. Deadly accurate focusing.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Deadly accurate focusing. Manual focus over-ride. Pleasingly sharp wide open.
Review: I have been a professional Fashion, Beauty and Advertising photographer for over 20 years. I have worked in every format and have been published world wide in everything from Harpers Italy to L'Officiel to "W" etc. I have not shot long lenses for years. ...

Beautiful Lens

by   steve5041 ,  Aug 26, 2007
Pros: Solid build, fantastic results.
Cons: It's a big lens and it's heavy, can't think of anything else.
Review: This is an absolutely gorgeous lens. The whole lens feels very solid with it's metal construction. Despite this it's still slightly lighter than it's Canon equivalent, although this one isn't image stabilised. The operation of the zoom and focus ...

You get what you pay for..?

by   deviant666 ,  Sep 5, 2004
Pros: Fast Silent Focus Superb Build Quality Apocromatic Lens Elements Wide Aperture
Cons: None I can think of.
Review: I have used this lens for a year now. I bought it because I could not afford a f/2.8 Canon lens and wanted something with that wide an aperture. After much study on the web and consulting other photographers I discovered this Sigma lens had roughly the ...
