Excellent lens for the $

Pros: Good focal range, good close ups and solid feel.

Cons: The lens is a little noisy, but not enough to distract.

When I bought my Canon 30D it came with a 24-135mm IS lens which didn't have enough wide angle.
I picked up a kit 18-55mm Canon for a fill in.
When the money allowed I bought the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-45 DC lens and what a difference.
The quality of the pictures is right up there with friend of mine who paid almost $1600.00 for a comparable lens for his Canon 30D and he is not real happy about that.
I have taken pictures inside, outside with and without flash, sports pictures, landscapes and even a wedding and they all come out great.
I have asked people around me about the little noise the lens makes compared to my 2 Canon lenses and they hardly hear it.
I am very happy with this lens and would recommend it.
