Wanna laugh a lot? Go see Shrek Helping hands W/O

Amazingly enough there is an animated movie out there NOT made by Disney that is utterly one of the better animated movies I have ever seen. Shrek is a laugh a minute all the way from the beginning credits, as it shows you our lovable Oger's daily ritual, and to the end where you are watching a dancing and signing donkey :).

Shrek is produced by Dreamworks and is a wonderful masterpiece! They take no shame in poking fun at the ever popular and dominating Disney with a tune that seems just a tad familiar to "It's a small world" and other not so hidden moments here and there.

This is a delightful movie that both children and adults will love on different levels. I know it seemed that almost every few minutes I was laughing about some joke or action that happened.

Shrek (Mike Myers) is a quite ogre who lives a life of solitary confinement and wants to keep it that way. So he is quite surprised when one day he finds all the fairy tale creatures at his door step setting up camp all around him and in his home. It seems that our ever so evil (and short) Prince Farquarr (John Lithgow), is trying to make the perfect Kingdom... and it does not include anything magical.

Shrek decides that he is going to do something about it and goes to see Farquarr at Dulac to tell him to give him his swamp back. Donkey (Eddie Murphy) decides to become his sidekick at this point and travel with him (since he is also the only one who volunteers to go or claim he knows where to go). Upon reaching Dulac Shrek and Donkey explore a bit around first and find their way into the ring where the knights are getting ready to do battle to see who will be the "lucky" one to go and get Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), who is trapped in the tallest tower of the castle surrounded by lava and guarded by a fire breathing dragon sounds like fun doesn't it??:).

Eventually it works out that Farquarr strikes a deal with Shrek, bring back the Princess to him and he will hand over the deed of the swamp to Shrek. Reluctantly Shrek agrees.
So the adventure begins and our "hero" is off to rescue fair Fiona.

This is not your typical fairy tale story. This one is aimed at both children and adults and that is what makes it so wonderful. I know you heard this before but it's true, this is a movie that has jokes for the adults in it that are so easy to miss if you are a child it's just too perfect and it has enough laughter in it for the children too.

A dragon in love with a donkey, a princess kicking Robin Hood's butt (along with his merry men MATRIX style), a small guy in a HUGE castle (compensating for something eh?), Cinderella and Snow White fighting with each other... There are so many wonderful and funny parts in this movie I can't name them all. :)

The animation is wonderful in this movie, it's not as cartoonish as Toy Story is but it's not 100% realistic looking either. It's a wonderful combination that makes this movie so enjoyable to watch. You can really tell that there was a lot of hard work put into the making of Shrek and it paid off for Dreamworks in a wonderful way.

The music was mostly real bands not musical numbers made up for the movie which I really enjoyed too. Shrek would be a soundtrack I wouldn't mind having since I did enjoy most of the songs that stick out in my mind.
This is a movie that works well as a family night out or if your in a comical mood a date movie. Shrek is a MUST SEE in my book :).
