Don't just throw your credit card, social security, or bank information away. With identity theft on the rise, you need to dispose of this information wisely.
We had been burning all of our personal identity paperwork before we bought the Techko SH2106 Paper Shredder. The problem was that we found we were burning so much paper and started to think of the wasted trees it took. So with that in mind we decided to at least try to get some use out of the papers. We decided rather than burn them to shred them and use as part of our packing material for our E-Bay packages.
Features and Set Up
The Techko SH2106 Paper Shredder cuts up to six sheets of paper into 9/32" strips.
It is so simple to use and set up in a matter of 1 minute out of the box. It consists of the motor that sits on top of a 3.6 gallon vinyl wastebasket and an ac cord that plugs into your wall.
On top of the motor unit are the features of an On/Auto, Forward, and Reverse slide switch.
This unit accepts up to 6 sheets of paper at one time. After removing any staples and paper clips, you just slide the paper through the opening and the machine within a matter of seconds shreds it and disposes it into the wastebasket. The shredder automatically stops when it has finished shredding.
In the event of a paper jam, you just slide the switch to the "reverse" position to clear the shredder. This has only happened once so far and that was with my first full load. It just could not take anymore which was why my motor was sounding so slow. After that experience, you can always tell without looking in the wastebasket when the basket is becoming full since the motor will start shredding more slowly. A quick toss into an awaiting box and you are off and shredding again.
This unit is compact and sits right next to my desk. It does make a little noise when shredding, but certainly nothing loud where you cannot hear someone speak.
A damp cloth to wipe it clean is all it takes if need be for any dust that may collect.
Postage Costs with Shredded Paper
I thought I would add an extra tidbit in here for those of you who do packaging. I use bubble wrap and newspaper for my packing materials. Bubble wrap is of course expensive, but a necessity. I have found that by adding the shredded paper around my bubble wrap items instead of wadded up newspaper, that the postage has decreased quite a bit. Therefore, it won't be long before this unit has paid for itself.
The unit measures 12" x 12" x 6" and offers a one year warranty.
