And Then There Was Shogun... The DVD

Date of Review:  Oct 25, 2003
The Bottom Line: It's Shogun.
Review: You will often hear people say that Bruce Lee brought martial arts to America. The fact is, there isn't even really much room to argue the point. Sure, there were people who studied martial arts in America before Lee popularized it, but it wasn't...

My 600th Review! SHOGUN

Date of Review:  Apr 14, 2009
The Bottom Line: East meets West in a timeless tale of intrigue, warfare, and romance. Perfect.
Review: Shogun (1980) Directed by Jerry London from the Novel by James Clavell.

Roots is the definitive mini-series. However, a close second has to be the epic Shogun, featuring the adventures of Pilot-Major John Blackthorne, (Richard Chamberlain) an...

SHOGUN DVD: A Passable Execution of an Excellent Novel

Date of Review:  Jan 4, 2004
The Bottom Line: If you've read the book, then check this movie out as it's interesting and true to the story. If not, read the book!
Review: Right out of the gate, this DVD had some disadvantages from my point of view. First, Shogun has been and probably will remain one of my top favorite novels, so my standards are high. Second, I had just finished watching today's Hollywood wizardry in...

"Shogun" is mind boggling....

Date of Review:  Mar 9, 2007
The Bottom Line: One of the truly memorable television events is preserved on DVD.
Review: James Clavell ruled the best seller lists with his release of the novel, Shogun , an epic thriller set in 16th century Japan, just as the western world was uncovering the secrets of the great Asian societies. Clavell wrote over one thousand pages of...

Just Amazing.

Date of Review:  Sep 17, 2003
The Bottom Line: Sorry... I've run out of superlatives...
Review: Making a TV adaptation of one of the greatest works of fiction of all time (and in the view of many, including myself, Shogun deserves to be counted as one of these) must be a pretty daunting task just how do you turn well over a thousand pages in...

A delight to watch!

Date of Review:  Dec 31, 2000
The Bottom Line: One of the best mini's you'll see.
Review: This adaptation of James Clavell's Shogun is worth seeing. There are two versions of this: an edited 2 hour version, and the 8-10 hour original mini-series. The setting is medieval Japan in the late 1500s/1600s. Protestant England and the...

Soak yourself in Shogun

Date of Review:  Apr 28, 2003
The Bottom Line: This is one to watch over and over again. I can't recommend it enough. It has it all!!
Review: I'm old enough to remember when this TV series was the talk of the town when it first aired in 1981 or 82. The ratings were phenomenal. The reason for this is that it is an epic adventure with something in it to please all palates.

The...
