Author's Review

I bought this unit to downsize from a previous shelf system that I owned. I also wanted to use my iPod more often. After looking at almost every system out there, I purchased the Sharp XL-DK225 Shelf System for it's good reviews, excellent price, and small size.

I had the entire system out of the box and set up within a matter of minutes. Connecting the speakers and finding the correct iPod insert took almost no time at all. The system recognized and played my 3rd generation 80GB iPod Classic with no problems at all as well as my 1st generation iPod Nano. The sound is really great for such small speakers. I think the bass sound could be better, but it's easily supplemented with a sub woofer if needed.

The remote control for the system controls everything, including the iPod itself, if only in a basic manner. (You can pause, play and shuffle the iPod with the remote control.)

The only downside I can see to the system is that it's quite noisy when turned on and off. It does this thing where it shuffles through the CD changer when it's turned on and turned off.

A major complaint that I've seen in reference to this system is that the display tends to go a little nuts when you turn it off. This is easily fixed by making sure the clock is set to the correct time. As soon as that's done, the display will not flash anything.

I haven't had the opportunity to connect this system to my television to play video through it, but I can play videos on the iPod and the sound comes through the system just as well as when playing music.

The other features of the system are just as good. The CD sound is awesome and the FM tuner picks up even the hardest to find radio stations. It's also got an input for other types of mp3 players.

With the ease of setup, ease of use, sound quality and price; this system is definitely one I would recommend. I'm already considering purchasing another one for my bedroom.
