Like many others, I have one room that never fully benefits from the central A/C system. Unfortunately, it is the bedroom/office so the comfort level has to be excellent; and that is non-negotiable. I live in a town home so cannot have anything protruding from the windows and this unit seemed like the solution I was looking for. Overall was very impressed by the reviews and did my homework and shopping from there. The top-tier Sharp name; the quality of unit construction, ease of use and sound level all played into my decision and overall excellent rating. Purchased from Quality Matters at a competitive price and received the unit in absolutely pristine condition from UPS with all components accounted for. This thing rocks the cool on hot days - like today: 105 heat index. The only three major downsides I have are: 1. Draining is a fact of life. Running on almost any day above 85 degrees will result in you needing to drain the unit at least every four to six hours. Therefore, I would not use without being around to supervise. The good news is this is a very easy process and results in no machine downtime. 2. Sharp does NOT provide you with the 25 cent piece of tubing you will need to perform this function (which I find ridiculous given the price of the unit). 3. Very flimsy window kit - YOU WILL NOT be able to use this in a window that is less than 22". And you will also want to purchase some weather sealing tape to secure kit into the window and keep the hot air out. Like others, I will definitely have a window kit custom made. Also, to keep the unit running at max efficiency, the five foot exhaust hose should be as short as possible. The fact that I could not get this into the 20" window I anticipated has me running the hose at about 4 feet. This, however, has not affected performance at all. Cools room down to exact temp setting (yes, I have continually checked it against a digital thermometer to track performance ;). Bottom line: great purchase and highly recommended.
