Love/hate relationship

I bought this as a display model from Sears. I'd used many Sharp carousel microwaves before and been quite pleased with them, and I knew about the convection baking, so I wasn't squeamish about parting with $250+ for it.

It bakes, it roasts, it broils. I can bake a couple loaves of bread in this thing. I make the dough, let it rise, put it in pans, set the time and temperature on this thing, and wake up in the morning to fresh bread. With the right cookware you can use a combination of convection baking and microwave cooking, so that things are brown on the outside AND done in the middle. In short, it's wonderful.

The downside: the turntable. You can't stop it from turning. Consequently, if you put a large, rectangular pan in there, it won't turn properly. Do this consistently (which my kids do), and you will trash the turntable motor. That's $77 just for the part, assuming you can replace it yourself (I have, twice). If you have to pay someone else to replace it, well, get ready to cough up some dough.

Also, the stainless steel interior needs to be cleaned regularly (like every couple days), otherwise stuff sticks to it and you CAN NOT get it clean. It doesn't have a self-cleaning setting. This wasn't a problem until I got married and inherited kids. If you have kids, think twice about buying this thing.

If they would give it some kind of non-stick interior surface (making it easier to clean) and something which would disable the turntable when oversize objects are inside (so the turntable mechanism wouldn't wear out), this would be nearly perfect.
