Stopped Working!
Date of Review: Mar 9, 2009
The Bottom Line: I would recommend staying away from this model. While I still believe Sharp makes quality microwaves, my personal experience with this model is one you would not want to share.
I purchased this microwave in November of 2007 after owning a smaller Sharp Carousel II for over 12 years. I loved the large capacity of the Sharp R-520LW, but immediately noticed it was considerably louder than our previous microwave. Eventually I got use to it.
Over the past year, I have noticed that the sensor cooking does not do a very accurate job. When using it to heat water, it would often boil it instead of just making it "hot water" as the microwave button states. Additionally, when using it for baking potatoes, it would often stop short of fully cooking the potato, leaving it still hard. I would have to manually add more time to fully cook it.
It is now March 2009 and the microwave has stopped working altogether. It is receiving power, but it doesn't cook. When I push start, the timer ticks down though the cooking power never engages. The warranty through the manufacturer only covers the microwave for one year, so I'm out of luck! The cost of fixing it is probably not worth the $140 I paid for it new. After owning my old Sharp microwave for so many years, I am very disappointed with the poor quality and life of the R-520LW!
