If You Purchase This One, You Will Notice The Difference..
Date of Review: Jun 8, 2009
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend if you would like to keep up with the speed.
If you are in the market for a new microwave oven then do not waste your money on those fancy expensive ones. Sharp has been around for quite a few years, and as far as I can remember they have been around longer than I have been alive. They are even getting to be one of the top of the line in the television department. When we moved into our new house, we had to purchase just about two of everything and that included another microwave. You know what the women say if you have new furniture then you need new drapes and then new blinds and the list goes on. Therefore, instead of trying to win this battle I just gave in and went with a middle of the road appliance, and Sharp came to mind. I have never had any problems with any other products that I have purchased from Sharp they have always lasted quite a while. When we went looking for this, we found that there were so many colors to choose from and the different sizes and do not get me going on that. We went to many different places and even tried our hand at looking at them on line, but that part was very futile, because they look very different in person, than on a PC screen. They sell these at just about any store that is in your neighborhood for the price of the lowest that I had seen was $130 and all the way up to $200. Therefore, we found one of these for $130 and took it home.
Description
Do not worry about the weight of this microwave because this one weighs only 40 pounds. The inside turntable is just a little over 14”, I measured my old turntable to see if there was any difference between the two, and it is the same size. This new one is a 1200-watt model and my old one was 1100 watt, so it is just about the same wattage. You will need enough space to accommodate a microwave the size of this one is approximately 18” Deep x 22” wide x 12” high in diameter. The capacity is just about the same, we havea 1.6 cu.ft. inside of the new one. This is enough room for you to put a nice size casserole pot inside.
Experience
We have been using ever since we moved into our new home and it has left the old one in the dust. We had not noticed how old our old one actually was until you get a new one. The new one uses less power to operate and it is a lot quicker. We really like the fact that the buttons are hid from sight; you do not see them until you open the door. This is nice because you do not see any fingerprints on the front. You have to open the door to put your food inside anyway so why not put the buttons out of sight. The stainless steel sleek design will fit any décor and this can be uses for the lightest of dinners to a major get together. If you need to cook a large roast this has a sensor to help with the inside temperature of the meat. We have used this several times when cooking popcorn, we usually have a problem in this department in the old one, because all of the kernels almost never get popped. Not the case with this one, with the touch of just one button it will pop all of your corn. This also has all of your usual one touch buttons included are the numbered ones and a two color lighted display and a clock that is the easiest that I have ever the pleasure of learning to set. Of course, this has the usual inside light to help you out when you open the door. In addition to all of the numbers, this has nine sensor settings and what I like is the quick instant button, this will allow you to zap something for 60 seconds, and if you just push it, several times the minutes will just add up. If you need to defrost anything, this also works well for that but I usually just hit the quick button to do that and it works just as well.
We have cooked large roasts, scrambled eggs, popcorn; boiled water for coffee, hamburger, a meatloaf, casseroles, pizzas’, if you can cook it, we have tried it in here. So far, we have not burned anything. We usually try to stay at home and eat. This is easy enough for our daughter to use it. This is very durable and easy to clean, inside and out. All I do is use some Windex and that takes care of it.
Warranty
There is a 90-day store warranty on this plus a one-year warranty mfg. warranty. I have yet to have any problems with this.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend this, it is not that expensive, and it works great no matter what ever you put inside. With this being fairly new it seems to work twice as fast as our old one. This is not to big that it will not fit on any counter or you can purchase a little inexpensive microwave table to set this on. These tables are very cheap and you can find them anywhere.
