A Sharp Disappointment

The Bottom Line: Would not recommend a Sharp microwave due to poor reliability and poor customer service.
We bought this microwave less than a year and a half ago and were fairly satisfied with it. Last week it quit heating things up. The light worked, it made its usual noise but no heat. We had saved the receipt and book so I started looking into warranty repair. The microwave had a 1 yr. warranty and an additional 4 yrs. on the magnetron tube. I contacted the warranty repair center in my area.They said it would be $25.00 to diagnose the problem. If it was the magnetron it would be $47.00 labor and $7.50 shipping on the part. I paid about $100.00 for the microwave so it did not make good sense to me to invest that kind of money in it. It may very likely break again if it was that unreliable. I was going to remove the back to look for a fuse but it has screws that take a special tool. I called Sharp customer service to see if they would work with me on the repairs since it was so new. They said "too bad- so sad " and really did not seem to care about their reputation. I told them I would never buy another Sharp product and they seemed just fine with that. I bought a new LG microwave and hope it will be a good one.
