Oh my gosh! This thing is fabulous! I thought my microwave was pretty good until I got this Sharp Carousel microwave. We have just recently remodeled our house and painted all the kitchen cabinets white (they were dark brown). I admit, it is vain, but I wanted a new microwave to got with my spiffy new kitchen decor. (For those of you who read my review of my Kenmore Air Conditioner, you'll know what I mean)
I really thought my old microwave was adequate. It was old, but it worked. It had the old dial that you turned to however many minutes you wanted and then press start. The only other option was full power or half power. Popcorn was iffy at best, but eventually got done.
When I got this one home, I nearly squealed with delight at all the pretty buttons and choices. I immediately sat down with the booklet and began reading all my new toy could do. Then I tried out some of the features. This microwave is huge inside and has a carousel turntable inside for even distribution of heat. Even though it has ample room inside, it is compact enough to fit on the counter without taking over. The height is excellent, allowing room between the top of the unit and the bottom of the cabinet for good air flow. The Display Help is a really nice touch too. When you first turn it on, it tells you - step by step - how to set the clock. It also helps you along the way when using the features. It is very intuitive!
The one feature I can foresee as being the most used (other than Popcorn) is the Sensor Reheat. What a trip! You put your leftovers on a plate, put them in the microwave and press one button - Sensor Reheat. The microwave starts, monitors the food, and then after little bit, lets you know how much longer it believes it will take. Then it beeps when it's done. The leftovers we tried (spaghetti) turned out perfect -- warm all the way through and still moist and delicious.
The second thing I tried out was the "Ground Meat" button. Wow! This was too awesome also! I had roughly a pound of ground beef. I put the meat in a small mixing bowl and put it in the microwave. I laid a sheet of wax paper on top and pressed "Ground Meat". The microwave started, ran for a bit then beeped. The display informed me to set the meat sit, covered for 2-3 minutes. When this time was up, I drained the meat then broke it up with a fork. It was perfectly done all the way through, tender, and juicy. I was duly impressed.
I can't wait to try out the other features of the microwave. As you can see, I am very pleased with my purchase. This unit has preset buttons for a whole host of foods and each button is clearly marked. The instruction manual is well written and easy to follow. In addition to running full power, the unit allows you to manually set the power strength you want for any use. The "Minute Add" button lets you quickly microwave for one minute with one touch or add one minute to any already cooking dish.
If I find out that any of my friends are looking for a new microwave, I am surely going to recommend this one. It does everything I thought I'd want a microwave to do and other things that I hadn't dreamed of!
