Product Review

Impress yourself with this winner...

Pros:  Jaw dropping display at HD resolutions, nice looking set with great features.

Cons:  Sound system adds to the looks, but ultimately sacrifices good sound quality.

The Bottom Line:  Fast and gorgeous display. Gaming is "Heavenly" and HD content is "Stunning". There aren't many products that can top The Aquos '82, '92 series LCD line. This set delivers.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I wanted to set up a "High Def" gaming room so the features I needed were "Speed, Size and overall Color Performance". This is a beautiful set, I did not think I could appreciate "Piano Black" but have since built the sound system around that theme. At the time of purchase, only "Sharp" offered the "120hz" and "4ms" display features. The color palate is vibrant and rich and there is no lag during gaming. Blacks seem quite good as well and I can say that I have absolutely no issues when used as my primary gaming display.
My "PS3" gaming system also has a good "Blu-ray" player and "HD Blu-ray" is stunning on this set. The up converted regular DVD's also look very nice, although I did notice some clouding in dark scenes on one instance, but selecting a different display mode seems to off set that. There are several display modes to select from and all seem to be useful for one source or another. Also, there is a display button that allows you to fill the screen depending on the source content. Options are "Stretch, DotXDot, Zoom etc. I don't understand why 16x9 TV's don't just do this automatically and I don't understand enough about this feature other than if you want to fill the screen, you need to use it. I think this is called "Pull-Down" feature. I mostly use "DotXDot" for 1080P gaming display, "Zoom" for 2.35 DVD's and "Stretch" for 4X3 source.
With 3 HDMI ports and a couple component, you have lots of HD options and they are all mounted on the side. The set also includes an "Optical" out port which is handy if you have digital cable and a nice sound system. The remote is laid out very well and is probably the best "stock" remote I have used in some time. I don't care for the sound system too much. It is mounted on the bottom and is downward firing. While this feature adds to the set aesthetics, it is not an optimal solution for good sound reproduction. Most people shouldn't complain, but I have a good ear for sound and luckily, a nice sound system that I use instead. I suppose the set might sound better if it was "Wall Mounted" rather than on a stand. The "OSD" function is one of the best I have used on any TV set so far.
Since the release of the Aquos '82 and '92 series, other LCD makers now have fast response displays on the market, so this means better prices on the Sharp and look for something new from them as well as they tend to lead the pack in LCD technology and features.
