Author's Review

We replaced our rear-projection 53" Sony (non-HDTV) with this Sharp Aquos. I performed quite a bit of research, and spent a lot of time in several local retailers to compare pictures, angles, reflections, etc.

The Sharp Aquos was very impressive. I thought the picture was brighter than the plasma and LCD TVs I compared it with, and the depth and picture was extremely clear and consistent. Viewing from near 180º to either side did not reduce brightness or quality. I also really liked the idea that it is full 1080p, not just 1080i. That will be important for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc players.

One of the most important factors for me was the screen coating/cover. Most plasma/LCD TVs have a reflective (even highly reflective) coating or cover over the screen, which creates distracting reflections. When paying for such a nice picture, you shouldn't have to see reflections from lights, the blinds, or anything else. The Sharp Aquos does not have a reflective coating, thus enhancing your viewing pleasure because you don't have a semi-mirror covering your TV.

I also liked that it has two HDMI inputs, which will be more and more important as more HD digital devices become available.
