LC-37GD4U is a dream machine!

Date of Review: Dec 2, 2004

The Bottom Line:  I would buy this again, and eventually upgrade to the 1080pixel 45-inch Aquos.
I bought from a local computer shop for under 4000 bucks, so the price was comparable to internet stores. The picture is just amazing, and with the Built-In HD Tuner (yes, there is a Built-in Digital Tuner with this one, not the G4U), you can watch stunning HDTV out of the box right over the air - even with bunny ear antennae.

Got the Cable HD package, and was disappointed that the signal is not the full-blown digital like over-the-air....seems to be 480 instead of 720. Using the zoom option brings it to full size, but not as high quality as over-the-air. May be a matter of using the HDMI or DVI inputs instead of component. I recommend calling the cable provider to check this out, which I still need to do.

I was a bit disappointed that the set doesn't offer PIP or split screen display so that you can watch TV and have a computer monitor display up at the same time. I think Samsung's offers this feature.

Overall, this is definitely the finest HDTV on the market for this price level (very comparable to Plasma, but without the drawbacks of the plasma technology), and is easy on the power consumption (under 200 Watts), which is much less than plasma and CRT sets.
