Author's Review
I got this TV as a refurbished model, it replaced my old mono 19" television. The difference is like night and day! This TV is much bigger and better than my previous model and I don't think I could ever go back!
What I really like about this TV is that you have a lot of inputs, you have a lot of room for extra VCRs, DVD players or video games. Here are the video and audio ports on the TV set:
-Easy to access front stereo RCA jacks
-Two rear stereo RCA jacks that allow you to add more devices
-One set of HD Component jacks allows for HD game systems or a Progressive scan compatible DVD player. (The HD jack is not full 1080 resolution, it is probably 480p but isn't listed in the manual anywhere.)
-An S-Video jack in-case your DVD player or Game system isn't HD compatible you can still enjoy a higher quality video image.
-Audio output jacks - for audio output to an external stereo or recording device
(When using the HD Component or S-Video you will need to use the audio ports labeled on Video In 1 jack for sound, also whatever video source that is plugged into Video In 1 is disabled until you un-plug the HD component or S-Video device.)
The room to add more devices to the TV is great for me since I have a VCR, DVD player, Basic Cable (via coaxial port), and HD Component GameCube system hooked up to the set all at once. The TV is easy to use and setup, the on-screen menus are very easy to navigate. If you lose the remote that's alright since all the buttons you need are built onto the TV. Any modern universal remote should work fine for it.
Some problems with most TVs is that you need to press a special button on the remote to switch to the RCA input channel, and if you lose the remote you can't select the inputs but, that's not the case with this TV which is great because I frequently lose the remote control.
There are some cool options on this TV that you can active through the menus, you can setup the TV so when ever you plug in a device into the front-RCA jacks the TV will change the channel to Input 2 so you can get ready to use the device right away. Also you can give custom 4 character titles to off-the-air or basic cable channels for example channel 5 is 'FOX', channel 9 is 'UPN' or channel 32 is 'TOON, you can only do this on a dozen or so channels since the TV doesn't have too much memory, the TV will display a 'FULL' message when you can't add any more labels. A cool feature is 'Blue Screen', if you don't get a channel coming in clearly (while using the coaxial jack only) you will not get a black fuzzy screen with an annoying loud noise, all you will get is a blue screen with the number of the channel on top. This is a great change from that old annoying way and is nice improvement.
You can also tell the TV to turn off after a period of time in Sleep mode so you can fall asleep watching TV without worrying about the electricity bill. Speaking of the electricity bill this TV is Energy-Star certified and has an Energy Saver mode which dims the screen slightly. You won't notice this if you watch TV in a darker room or at night, and you will actually gain about 1 centimeter of screen space. When you turn the feature on the screen seems to squeeze a little but, it actually isn't, this is just turning the backlight down a bit allowing you to see more of the image on the side, this is easier on your eyes and should save you some money from the electric company.
This TV is great, although it is not an HD TV it is still better and sharper than a regular TV. Some models like these may be considered 'EDTV' (Enhanced Definition Television) since they can accept up to 50% higher video quality than a regular TV but, it is still not as good as an HDTV. If you can't afford an HDTV but still want to watch DVDs and play games on a very nice looking vivid TV than this is the set for you. It's very affordable and has a lot of features most sets don't come with standard.
